My brother has Rock Band and its fun, he travels alot so we don't play it often. My daughter is going to get a real guitar for Christmas from my brother & his wife and I was thinking about getting one or the other but the more I think about it, I am leaning towards both. www.rockband.com/compatibilityWhen I look at the compatibility chart, if I have the GH5 hardware, I should be able to use it on everything except the original Rock Band which isn't a problem since my brother lives 5-10 minutes away. I know the wife would love the AC/DC track pack, the Beatles, Aerosmith & Metallica would be fun. Which one do you guys prefer?

if you get the GH WT peripherals you'd be able to just buy game discs for all the other ones since GH has complete compatibility. I have RB1 peripherals, but used RAWKSD to get it to play GH and RB songs... I do however prefer GH guitars over RB ones, but the Drum set is a main difference with GH having "symbols" and RB not... either way they're both on sale and are a blast for the family and friends!

I am a hardcore Guitar Hero/Rock Band fan... the games I own are Guitar Hero 3, World Tour, Metallica, and Rock Band 2... out of all of these, my favorite was Guitar Hero 3... but if you would prefer a band game, I would DEFINITELY go with Rock Band 2. It's all opinion, but Rock Band 2 has the best setlist out of the other 3 that I own, and it's got SO MUCH DLC that you can personalize it to your liking. Take a look at this list of downloadable content: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Complete_list_of_downloadable_songs_for_the_Rock_Band_seriesMUCH more variety and higher quality than the Guitar Hero DLC. I think the big thing is the setlist, and you can make your setlist into anything you want with Rock Band 2. I suppose you could go for both... I don't have GH5, but the setlist isn't as good (in my opinion, anyway)... I mean, it's an opinion here. Neither one is definitively better. I just think the Rock Band 2 is the better option because you can really personalize it by buying your own songs. I had World Tour and the song list was pretty lame, I didn't really like it... so I use the World Tour peripherals with Rock Band 2, I prefer them over the Rock Band ones... and the guitar works well. I know nothing about Rock Band: Beatles, I don't want it because the songs on guitar are going to be too easy, I know it... and that's what I'm about, challenge on guitar ... same thing goes for GH5, actually, not too many difficult songs... Ultimately, I would recommend looking at the setlists and seeing what you like... P.S. The World Tour drums have broken on me several times...the cymbals keep ripping because I hit them too hard... if you are going to get them be kinda gentle haha

Alright! The wife owns Guitar Hero III, Aerosmith (mainly got it for a 2nd guitar so we could play together!), and Metallica (she's BARELY played this). I own Rock Band 2, and Beatles. Beatles is awesome. So good.
I don't know how good you are, or what level you play on, but I can't handle Hard yet. I'm pretty good at Medium (like, I miss 2-3 notes a song) but once that Orange gets in there..ugh. Maybe I need to practice with some hard Bass or something..
I MUCH prefer the Rock Band guitars over Guitar Hero. They're a lot lighter, and my hands definitely like them more, too. It feels like the frets are bigger, and the neck is definitely smaller. I don't have tiny hands by any standards (probably larger than your hands, actually..I've been known to palm a basketball), but it just works a LOT better. I don't get it.
I've been trying to play Don't Hold Back on Guitar Hero III on Medium and can't get through it, but if I had a crack at it with a Rock Band Guitar? Yeah man, that would be over.
We don't mix and match any equipment with the sole exception of using the Guitar Hero guitar for bass when we have visitors.
Rock Band 2 and Beatles are so awesome. A MUST for Beatles fans.

The more I read, I think I will go with Rock Band Beatles. Assuming i can work the purchase into my holiday budget. My daughter is very musicly inclined, she can repeat a song after hearing it a couple of times. The new Apple Nano commercial, by Miss Li, is her new song of choice. Plus with the real guitar coming as a gift, this might help her want to take lessons in the next year or 2.

Hey Quistopher, does she LIKE the Beatles? I mean, the Beatles are pretty awesome and all, but [unbelievably] they aren't for everyone. I love the Beatles, my wife loves the Beatles, and my family loves the Beatles. Rock Band 2 is pretty awesome/flexible in terms of music that you like. Here is a list of all of the songs that you can buy as SOON as you get the game online: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_in_downloadable_songs_for_the_Rock_Band_seriesAll of the Beatles songs are NOT available, and they've only released Abbey Road and Sgt Pepper's in full. Rubber Soul is slotted for a mid-December release, with no additional albums/songs scheduled to release at this time (which is hard to believe AND hard to swallow, seeing that theres only ONE song from Help!, maybe 2 from Hard Day's Night, and a LOT more awesome songs that should be there absent from the disc). --Oh! I forgot to mention; if you get the Beatles full set, it comes with the game, a mic w/ stand (a normal mic stand will NOT hold the mic from the game, you'll need a special one), the drums, and Paul's guitar. In order to enjoy the game fully, you'll want another guitar, and another mic. (btw, the max setup you can enjoy is 3 mics, 2 guitars, and drums. You can NOT use 3 guitars EVER. And the 3rd mic is only used for 3-part harmonies which aren't very often, and most of the time the 3rd guy isn't singing when the 1st guy is and vice versa, so Mic #1 can cover that one way or another usually.) You're looking at a pretty penny if you seek out all of that stuff. I had bought a full Rock Band set ahead of time so I had 2 mics already, and another guitar obviously. Being a Beatles fan, I also bought the John- and George-specific guitars, too. Those are $100 apiece. Haha, I'm easy to find if you have any other specific questions. Shoot me an email, Quistopher.

I don't actually have a clue about compatibility. I'm gonna ask Travis if he's seen this and let him figure it out. We're Guitar Hero people mostly, but we would like to play the drums and stuff... I know we have GH3, World Tour, and Metallica. I think that's it. But yeah. I know we couldn't get Rock Band drums to work with GH...
Anyway, my two cents is just that I like GH, particularly GH3. =)
