AFL-NFL Throwback Season Under Way

ORCHARD PARK -- The year is 1969. Gas is roughly 40 cents a gallon. Nixon is in office. The Cold War is ongoing. Oh, what a wonderful time to be alive.
It was also a great time in sports, too. While Major League Baseball celebrated its 100th Anniversary, it was the Negative 1st Anniversary of the NFL as we know it. Just one year later, the upstart American Football League would merge, in full, with the powerhouse National Football League.
Eight classic franchises are reborn in a tribute to the AFL; other teams, too
In one of the greatest moments in modern football history, Joe Namath boldly guided the AFL's New York Jets over the NFL's Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III just one year earlier. That very matchup was echoed here last season with a similar result.
Here, in WiiMFL, whats old is new again. The Season 6 teams have all returned, and they've brought along four new expansion clubs, too. Each division picked up a brand new team in what is bound to be a very exciting season. These franchises have been taken back to a simpler time; their uniforms and helmets reflect that. ..And in some very special cases, their home town and even nickname have been augmented as well.
Your favorite stadiums of yesteryear have been resurrected. Miss The Rockpile? No problem! The Astrodome is actually current again. And the Saints return to the smoldering pile that was once known as Tulane Stadium. See ya later, Superdome! We understand that gametime photography looks to be a problem though.. If only...
In addition to those changes, the 10 AFL franchises will play an authentic 1969 schedule as they did way back when; the NFL side is on a similar plan. But unlike last year, conference rivals will battle it out unimpeded by the other brand with the top forces meeting for the first time in WiiMFL Super Bowl VII. It should be a good year for fans and players alike. Its a goodwill season, draped in fun, and working towards a final merge and realignment beginning next circuit.
And with that...it begins.
